  • 15 Jul 2014 Comparative Study of Different Grid Configurations

The video shows a comparative among different grid configurations. Our environment for real time microgrid simulation allows to simulate several grids in parallel with its own load curves and weather conditions. The aim of this video is to show the benefits of the distributed energy resources automatically controlled in microgrids with respect to microgrids with no management. The implemented microgrid management pursues to reach the minimum imported and exported energy from the utility. For this purpose, four microgrids are simulated at the same time. These microgrids share the same topology but some of them introduce new elements. They are: grid...

  • 14 Nov 2013 Explaining the Microgrid Simulation Environment

This is an introduction video to our environment for real time microgrid simulation. The video introduces the different parts of the visual interface. There are line charts showing the generation capability, the demand, and the powergrid losses. The configuration of the powergrid is not trivial mainly because: in spanish regulation, producing an excess of energy may lead to fines by the regulator; also, the production of energy may lead to important losses when it is not consumed near the generation facilities. To analyse these elements, we devise different visual representation of the elements of the powergrid, study the behavior and...

  • 08 Nov 2013 Autonomous Microgrid Simulation

We are developing a framework that enables the experimentation with grids in a realistic way. The decisions of the system are processed by a migrogrid tool called gridlabd. This tool performs static analysis of a microgrid to determine stable configurations and overloading situations. However, this tool is not designed to test facilities where decisions are made in run-time. So, we have devised a framework that interfaces with gridlabd to provide this functionality. The proof of concept is being used in the MIRED-CON project, where a microgrid is enhanced using devices developed by ZiV company, tested by the University of Zaragoza,...

  • 03 Sep 2013 Alternative INGENIAS implementation of MAS for IDASP

Accepted a contribution in the 1st Iberoamerican Conference on Microgrid with Distributed Renewal Energy Resources. The contribution introduces a development made with INGENIAS based on the MAS described in: Pipattanasomporn, M.; Feroze, H., Rahman, S. (2009): “Multi-agent systems in a distributed smart grid: Design and implementation,” Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2009. PSCE ‘09. IEEE/PES , vol. 1 no. 8, pp.15-18 The original work, according to the depiction made in the paper and omitting certain parts which were not available, has been remade from the point of view of INGENIAS. The result can be downloaded from GitHub I2ADPS, the head...

There is a growing interest into smartgrids and most papers do mention agent technoly as a the key technology to actually make the powergrid smart. A smartgrid is supposed to apply intelligence to improve the generation, distribution, or consumption of electricity. Due the expertise of the GRASIA group in Multi-Agent Systems, we decided to start promoting a rational application of this technology following our humble experience in technology transfer with industry. Our intention is to prevent a “silver bullet” feeling about agents, which was common at the beginning of the agent research. Instead, this site will focus on concrete contributions,...
